We are seeking a Database Architect on a 6-month contract-to-hire basis for a remote opportunity with a client in Houston, Texas. The ideal candidate will design, maintain, and optimize scalable, efficient, and secure database systems aligned with business objectives. This role involves close collaboration with development teams, system engineers, administrators, and stakeholders to ensure databases meet performance, reliability, and security standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and implement complex database systems and structures tailored to business requirements.
- Develop and maintain database schemas, tables, indexes, and relationships.
- Create and manage data models that align with business needs and technical constraints.
- Monitor and optimize database performance, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and data access patterns.
- Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks, troubleshoot, and resolve database-related issues.
- Implement and enforce data security policies to safeguard sensitive information.
- Ensure data integrity and availability through regular backups, disaster recovery planning, and recovery strategies.
- Collaborate with development teams to provide guidance on database-related aspects of application development.
- Assist in the design and implementation of data integration and migration processes.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database design, architecture, and procedures.
- Generate reports and analytics to support business decision-making and performance evaluation.
- Evaluate and recommend new database technologies, tools, and best practices.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and advancements to ensure the database systems remain innovative and cutting-edge.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Database Architect or in a similar role, with a strong database design, management, and optimization background.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL and other database formats.
Familiarity with database management systems (DBMS) and data warehousing solutions. - Strong knowledge of data modeling, database design principles, and data integration techniques.
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL) is desirable.
- Experience with database migration and upgrade projects preferred.
Knowledge of DevOps practices and database automation tools is a plus. - Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and data analytics platforms is advantageous.
- Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server and other database standards.
- Expertise in designing, implementing, and supporting highly available database environments.
- Experience with scripting tools such as PowerShell, Python, and JSON for deploying and supporting databases.
- Familiarity with Windows Server, VMware, and SAN platforms related to database performance and support.
- Strong experience with data modeling, CI/CD, IaC, and related tools is highly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make informed decisions.
Demonstrated experience with detailed documentation and adherence to formal policies and procedures. - Microsoft or other relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Database Administrator, Certified Data Management Professional) are a plus.
- Experience in Oil & Gas, Renewable Energy, Semiconductor Manufacturing, or Utilities is a plus.
